Vaulting
The sport of vaulting is basically gymnastics on horseback.  It is a recognised international sport governed by the FEI.  Originally developed from methods used, especially by cavalry schools, to accustom novice riders to the movement of the horse.

Vaulting competitions are made up of team, individual and pairs classes. All classes have both compulsory and freestyle components.  The upper age limit for teams is eighteen but there is no upper age limit for individuals.  A team consists of eight vaulters, one horse and one lunger plus one reserve vaulter.  The horse always works on the left rein, in canter on a circle of no less than 13m diameter.

There is one vaulting club in New Zealand which is run by Lyn McIntyre in
Paraparaumu. Contact vaultingnz@hotmail.com for more information.

In Auckland Gerda Kruthoffer is currently training 2 horses for vaulting in Karaka.  This is not a full club but she would appreciate contact from anyone with experience in vaulting to help out, do some coaching or just swap ideas with.
